Reviving Ancient Heroic Tales through Innovative Packaging Design

The Bxl Jupiter Team has created a unique packaging design for the Jing Yang Chun Wu Yun Liqueur, inspired by the ancient Chinese classic, Water Margin. This design, which won the Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, seamlessly blends art, culture, and technology.

The Bxl Jupiter Team drew inspiration from the Water Margin, one of the four classic novels in Chinese literature. The novel presents vivid images of ancient heroes, one of which is Wu Song, who famously killed a tiger after consuming eighteen bowls of spirits. This tale breaks the common belief of "three bowls don't pass the mountain," implying that one should not cross the mountain after three bowls of spirits.

The design of the Jing Yang Chun Wu Yun Liqueur packaging reflects this heroic tale. The team used ink on paper to create an aggressive image of a tiger, symbolizing Wu Song's bravery. This striking image, combined with the elegance of blue and white porcelain, gives the packaging a unique charm. Moreover, the use of monochrome printing not only enhances the visual appeal but also reduces printing costs.

The name Jing Yang Chun Wu Yun Liqueur itself carries a deep cultural connotation. The word "Jing" signifies the inheritance of Jingzhi's 5000-year brewing culture and skills. "Yang" represents mildness, as per the phrase "Spring in the Sun" from the "Book of Songs." Hence, the word "Spring" refers to the name of the wine, symbolizing the integration of "Yangchun."

The packaging design, made from paper, measures L180*W110*H330MM. The Bxl Jupiter Team's innovative approach to design and their ability to weave a cultural narrative into their work has been recognized with the Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and a strong blend of art, science, design, and technology.
